Chevron’s $43 billion Gorgon project gets a lift and improvement after the discovery of gas in the Greater Gorgon area in the Carnarvon Basin. Chevron is the operator of the permit with a 50 per cent interest. Construction of Gorgon project is underway with first gas planned for 2014. The project is a joint venture between Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell. Chevron recently signed agreements with Japanese utility Kyushu Electric Power Co.
Chevron has announced the latest long term sales deal to supply natural gas from the $43 billion Gorgon project.
The deal will see the Nippon Oil Company take 300,000 tonnes of natural gas per year for the first 15 years of the project. The value of the contract has not been disclosed. A number of deals have been reached with Asian customers in recent months.
